12 Day Coach Trip from Norwich in Norfolk to Shetland
Leaving Norwich on Monday June 12th 2017  - Arriving in Shetland on Friday 23rd June 2017

The route may vary from the details below due to changes in overnight accommodation, road conditions and timing.  We shall endeavour to update the route when practicable.

Day 1:  Norwich to Gainsborough

Leaving Norwich Cathedral, the route will take us to Cromer where we join the beautiful North Norfolk coastal road (A149) through to Kings Lynn.  We then travel past Sandringham through Kings Lynn and on the A17 to Sleaford, then A15 to Lincoln, A57 then A156 to Gainsborough or a village near by.

Day 2:  Gainsborough to Skipton

Early start on A631 across A1 west to Rotherham, then Stocksbridge on A629 then A616.  We pass near to Holmfirth and then north to Huddersfield, Halifax, A629 to Keighley to Skipton.

Day 3:  Skipton to Keswick

We travel west on the lovely A65 via Settle on to The Lake District. We cross the M6 and join the A590 then A591 to Windermere.  The route continues through some stunning countryside to Ambleside north to Keswick.

Day 4:  Keswick to Kilwinning

Heading east on the A66 to Penrith where we join the old A6 north to Carlisle, then Gretna.  We take the A75 to Dumfries, then A76 to Ayr.  Here we join the coast road north to Kilwinning.

Day 5:  Kilwinning to Fort William

We travel north on the A737.  This takes us to the Erskine Bridge across the Clyde avoiding Glasgow.   Our Tour of the Scottish Highlands begins with a journey along the banks of Loch Lomond A82 before heading north and westwards across the wide empty expanses of Rannoch Moor and then through Glen Coe to join the coast at Loch Leven.

Day 6:  Fort William to Skye

Fort William to Skye via Mallaig – Following “The Road to the Isles” A830 and the path of the railway from Fort William to Mallaig.  After lunch, take the 30 – 40 minute ferry crossing to Skye and travel the A851 along the Sleat Peninsula.

Day 7:  Skye Bridge to Gairloch

Skye Bridge to Gairloch A890, via Glen Torridon A896 – We embark upon a great scenic drive through the mountains of Wester Ross and will be travelling on quite a lot of single track road. The scenery around Glen Torridon is some of the best in Scotland and after the glen we propose a route that goes past a favourite loch A832 before arriving at Gairloch.

Day 8:  Gairloch to Lochinver

A relatively short drive of  4-5 hours will take us to Lochinver. Along the route A832 then A835 and the A837.

Day 9:  Lochinver to Durness

We take a drive up the B869 along a narrow but pretty coast road passing Clashnessie.

Day 10:  Durness to Thurso

Following the northern most coastline of Scotland, we travel through a landscape that was dramatically changed by the Highland Clearances.

Day 11:  Thurso to Orkney

8.45am Ferry to Stromness on Orkney, we spend the day on Orkney then at 11.45pm we take the Ferry to Shetland

Day 12:  Shetland

We arrive at Lerwick in Shetland at 7.30am
